New Blog

As all the stuff I seem to want to write about these days really doesn't fit with the style of this site, so I've got a new blog for all my mummy thoughts.

If you're interested in those things, read Muddling Through Motherhood. It's still a work in progress, needs some static pages and a proper design, but I'm working on it.

I seem to be becoming a "lactivist"

"Lactivist" is a popular term for an advocate (generally quite a militant one) of breastfeeding. When I got pregnant I presumed I would breastfeed but didn't think it would be the end of the world if we went on formula, although I knew it would be annoying to do all the faff with bottles.

Dear LazyWeb - help me find somewhere to stay!

For the last several years we've gone camping in Aberystwyth / Machynlleth for the weekend of the Dyfi Enduro. I really want to go again this year, especially as it coincides with the bank holiday weekend, and we might get a chance to visit some friends in Aber and have a mini holiday.

Rowan Entries

Well this will be the last of the neverending, frequent Rowan entries. I'm sure I'll still do the odd one, but we're intending to move the rest over to Rowan's new site, which I may even one day pick a skin for!

Anyway, he's going to be blogging for us (really, he tells me what to type! ;-) ), so head on over there and add his feed to your aggregator if you want to keep up with the incessant updates about sleeping, eating and pooing!

Clean Break

Since Rowan was born, I've made an effort to get in touch with some people. Unfortunately for them, I have some conditions that I need met for me to be comfortable seeing them. 'Unfortunately' for me, it appears they won't accept those. 7 happy and confident years without them has taught me that I'm a better person under my terms, but still I felt that I ought to make the effort to let them see Rowan.

Two Whole Months

By now, you will have learnt that, as I don't actually do anything else (and am pretty happy with this), all I ever blog about is Rowan! If you don't like it, skip on down to the next post in your blog aggregator or something :-)

Rowan is cute

One thing I've learnt about Rowan in the last 6 weeks is that he's not predictable. That may be something to do with the fact that we have no routine, but he almost never does the same thing twice!

Recently he's done some notable things, most strangely the day where he was awake for 7 hours straight then slept for a whole 4!

Anyway, he is still amazingly cute, and is now smiling regularly at all sorts of people, as shown by this photo. Those smiles make it all worthwhile.

Feeding and Sleeping

It was our fortnightly health visitor visit today, and Rowan is currently a whopping 10lb 4oz - an increase of 1lb 6oz since his last weigh-in two weeks ago. It is comforting to know that all the time he spends eating is for a purpose, and all the time he spends vomiting isn't having too detrimental an effect on that!

'Real' Nappies

David and I had planned, once we were settled in with the whole baby thing, that we'd start using reusable nappies. We try to recycle and not to use plastic bags and suchlike, so this is a pretty obvious thing for us to be doing. Joe and Hannah had given us some 'prefold' style nappies but we hadn't gotten around to trying them (they seemed a bit too much hassle for me).

Dear Lazyweb : Video Cameras

Having realised how crazily quickly Rowan is growing up, I've got my heart set on a video camera to record some of the memories we'll otherwise lose. However, I'll never convince David to let me have one unless he's sure we're getting the right one, so, we need some help and recommendations. I guess we're looking for something fairly small with a decent battery life, but don't know what else we're looking for...

Help anyone?
