The Dog.....

Meg update (for initial pictures, see here).

In no particular order, here's what we've found so far.

  • Rowan really likes her, and she's very good (so far) with his poking/pulling of her nose, eyes, fur etc
  • She wees when excited/scared/$insert_emotion here
  • She is destructive - but only at night - she has already chewed chopsticks, my ipod, a sling, Rowan's soft toys and more
  • She can jump very well
  • We tried to keep her in the kitchen using a venetian blind in the doorway above the baby-gate - but she jumped through it.....
  • She has and does poo in the house. :-/ On day 2 or 3, she left presents on Rowan's play mat; last night she did the same in her new 'room' which we shut her in to keep her out of the lounge/kitchen overnight
  • She doesn't know to go to the loo while out walkies etc. I'm trying to congratulate her on the rare occassions she does - but she doesn't really like any of the treats we have so this is difficult.
  • She smells (as in "the dog stinks," not "the dog uses it's nose to sniff substances")
  • She can however run well (better than Mr Bonzo or Cassie)
  • She is learning to wait outside until we tell her to come in....
  • We've now found a food combination she wolfs down, so the twiggy look should be gone soon - this might be due to her becoming more confident
  • She's starting to walk a lot better on the lead

So.... currently she has until next Tuesday - as we're only at the end of week one today - and we'll make a decision as to whether to keep her or take her back. I'm slightly torn over keeping her, as I'd like to think we'd give her a good home, but we're also not sure we can give her the time she needs in order to get her out of her various habits. The weeing being the worse and most annoying.

Magic Word

Try having a 'magic word' for mornings when you dash her out to the garden to go to the loo? Then you can take her on walks and use the same word or phrase. I found "get on with it" or "do your business" works fine, since you don't want to pick something like "do your weewee" only to hear sniggering neighbours 2-3 times a day :P

"Go and have a wee"

"Go and have a wee" used to work well with Bob&Cassie - but not with her. I suspect it would have taken some time to get the word association in place.

Unfortunately there's no need

Yesterday, Meg decided that she was going to bite my friend's trousers. She ripped the back of them, which my friend didn't notice, then tried again at the front.
We have no idea why she did it, and she wasn't generally being agressive, but we can't risk that she will decide to bite Rowan's clothes and accidently hurt him, or someone else, so she's going back as soon as we can sort it out.

We're sad for her, but we've got to do the right thing for Rowan

No more Meg

She went back yesterday.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. :(

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. :( No more Meg.
