On Saturday (yesterday), we visited Birmingham Dog's Home. They had so many dogs there - a number of who could probably have been a good fit for us. Thankfully they also weren't stupid and anal about not providing dogs to people with children less than 5 years old and suchlike like other places are/were.
Anyway, the good news is that we've settled upon a German Shepherd cross (possibly collie, as she's about that size, with GS markings). She has a few ginger tints, so that should mean she'll fit in quite well. She doesn't have a name (yet) - so Kat and I spent a few hours discussing names. I think Kat decided upon one, but I've already forgotten it (Meg? Chantel? Ci? Kitty?)
So, German Shepherd Cross, approximately 2, name unknown, appeared to be very friendly and well behaved - but is rather thin, so we'll have to fatten her up somewhat. She seemed to fullfill the necessary requirements (house trained, not a puppy, able to run between 4 and 14 miles, not a 'rat', not too big, malts lots to annoy Kat etc).
Anyway, "they" are coming to inspect our house on Tuesday - so I've had a quick tidy up of the garden (painted Chateux Mongrel (which probably needs renaming now) and burnt/removed lots of rubbish etc).
So - all being well, I'll be able to fall back into my routine of running every morning and 'walkies' in the evening. Oddly I've missed not having a walk in the evening - although it has given me more time (which lately has been much needed with a project going live tomorrow).
As a bootnote, "they" say she's "free" but also ask for a "donation" of 20 quid. (In my eyes, this means the dog is definately not free.. but there we are).

wot no pics?
GSs are beautiful dogs, but you post no piccies? Damn you!
Oh, and the donation is, usually, a voluntary thing. (and, I suspect, a tax thing too - they can probably get gift aid on a donation, but not on a fee).
All being well...
There will be photos tomorrow (Tuesday) - I Suspect - assuming all goes well.
The dog's home had prominent signs saying "Please don't take photos etc" - perhaps camera flashes annoy dogs, or they don't want the world to know what it was like in there?
Anyway... all being well... photos will be up tomorrow or the day after.
Ooer!
Hope it works out well :-) Camera flash annoys Fern quite a lot unless you use a diffuser, in which case she's mostly not fussed and becomes quite photogenic.
I'd say even a required donation of £20 is quite cheap for a dog, presuming she's up to date on jabs and spayed? Remember not so fondly almost having a heart attack when being presented with the vet's bill for getting my pup done, I believe the polite word is "extortion". :(
Vets, Vets, Vets!
Yeah... we don't know if she's been spayed - although might find out today. Likewise, as she's a stray, she's likely behind on jabs etc anyway.
I think we'll be buying tinned dog food for the forseeable future in an effort to fatten her up.
